Monday, April 21st 2017 – Home Field Advantage is set to kick-off their after school soccer program in the City of Downey, at Unsworth Elementary School. Founder, Sacha van der Most van Spijk, and the rest of his staff have been working closely together with the City of Downey’s Park and Recreation and ASPIRE Programs. The ASPIRE Program is operated by The City of Downey Parks and Recreation Department. It is a collaborative effort between the city and school district. The program is funded through The California Department of Education Afterschool Education and Safety grant funds (ASES).
HFA’s program will run for 6-weeks beginning on Thursday, April 27th and ending on June 1st. 5 handpicked High School student athletes from neighboring communities within Downey will help run the program at Unsworth Elementary overseeing 25 participants from grades 3-5. HFA’s staff had the opportunity to educate and train the students providing them a coaching curriculum for the program. HFA also helped these students obtain their “F” license from the United States Soccer Federation. These new coaches will now have the opportunity to put their newfound knowledge into action at Unsworth Elementary with the guidance of Sacha van der Most van Spijk.
Everyone at HFA is very pleased and excited to be working with the City of Downey. As always, HFA is ready to make an immediate impact within the community encouraging our youth to become leaders of this new generation helping unite our communities!
