Friday, June 2nd 2017 – Yesterday marked the final day of HFA’s After School Program at Unsworth Elementary in the City of Downey. Founder, Sacha van der Most van Spijk, along with his newly appointed coaching staff of 5 High School student athletes had the opportunity to run the program for 6-weeks beginning back in April.
HFA is proud to have set the foundation for these young student athletes to gain their official “F” License from the United States Soccer Federation. After obtaining their credentials, coaching curriculum, and being properly trained by HFA Directors, our coaches were given the opportunity to coach 25 participants (3-5th grade) from Downey’s ASPIRE Program. Through the course of the program our coaches learned the importance of leadership, responsibility, and above all else, being a positive example for all of the young children of the program.
Everyone at HFA is very pleased with this collaborative effort between the city and school district, which proved to be successful on many fronts. We are also pleased with the effort and commitment shown by our newly appointed staff. HFA continues to stress the importance of creating healthier, stronger, more active and connected communities through sports leadership. Stay tuned…we are only getting started!
Playing at your HOME FIELD should always be an ADVANTAGE!
